Thankful for Mt. Vernon

With Thanksgiving before us, I thought now would be a good time to reflect on why I’m thankful for Mt. Vernon, the city I call home.

Family Feel– Living in Mt. Vernon since I was born, I have many family and friends in the area that always bring joy to my day and make me feel so loved! Mt. Vernon brings a welcoming environment to its visitors, as well. Chat with local restaurant owners when you are dining out. Tell them how you found Mt. Vernon and about your experience in the city! Our local businesses truly want to help make the most of your visit here. They make you feel a sense of community and valued as a customer.

Variety- I am thankful for the vibrant variety Mt. Vernon brings! Variety in the shops we have, the food to try, and entertainment to enjoy. Whether you enjoy rummaging through flea market finds or searching for boutique baby clothes, you have choices in Mt. Vernon. Want to try local Mexican cuisine? We have 4 Mexican Restaurants! Looking for a fancy date night and exquisite steak? We have RARE Chop House! Need a night out with the boys enjoying music and smoked BBQ? See why everyone raves about The Frosty Mug! Anytime of year, I can enjoy the cultural scenery at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts or feel nostalgia for days gone by at the Jefferson County Historical Village. I am thankful for a city that offers so much!

Church- Besides family and friends, I am thankful for my church family at Central Christian Church here in Mt. Vernon. Walk in the doors, and be greeted by smiling faces, truly happy you are visiting. If you are looking for a church service while you are visiting, there are over 100 churches in the county!! The Convention & Visitors Bureau can gladly help you find information on which church you would like to visit.

Career- I am thankful for a job where I can express creativity, my love for meeting new people, and promoting the city I love. Mt. Vernon has many different avenues you can take your career down. There are several jobs in hospitality, working at restaurants, hotels, and retail. Mt. Vernon is also home to the largest private sector employer south of Peoria, Continental Tire, employing more than 3,000. I am thankful to live in a city that provides jobs for so many families!

Leisure- I am grateful for any opportunity I get to relax and have fun! There is always something happening in Mt. Vernon to attend! Live music at restaurants and events, craft fairs, trivia nights, parades, festivals, carriage rides, you name it! There are numerous reasons to get out of the house and explore the excitement happening in the city.

What are you thankful for? If you’re passing through Mt. Vernon during this season, make memories of your own that you can look back on later and be grateful for the time spent in this city!
