A Conversation about Ghosts, Witches and other Terrors in Southern Illinois
October 24 @ 6:30 pm
The C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library in Mt. Vernon, Illinois will be hosting A Conversation on Ghosts, Witches & Other Terrors in Southern Illinois, with Todd Atteberry on October 24 at 6:30 p.m. Todd is the author of The Haunted History of Southern Illinois, The Folklore, Backroads & Graveyards of Little Egypt.
Specializing in historical and haunted subjects in the United States, Ireland and Britain, Todd has picked up on the folklore of the places he’s explored. Now old enough to be a historical subject himself, and settled into his hometown of Carmi, he’s turned his attention to the eerie side of southern Illinois’ past. “I always knew southern Illinois was weird,” Todd says, “but I didn’t realize how weird, or that we were actually famous for it at one time.”
“I try to make these as interactive as possible, as once one person speaks up about a paranormal occurrence, others join in. Pretty soon you can see that the supernatural isn’t as rare as you’d think,” Todd says. “Also, I can’t imagine sitting in an audience and listening to me drone on and on for an hour.”
Todd’s photography and writing have appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Herald, BBC, The Guardian, CNN, MSNBC, Huffington Post, Broadway World, Country Living Magazine, House Beautiful and Good Housekeeping. Past clients include: The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Civil War Trust, Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth Massachusetts, History Press, Historic Hudson Valley and the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow.
His writing and photography can be found at witcheryart.com.
Todd is also the author of Haunted Travels in the Hudson River Valley Of Washington Irving: The Sketch Books Vol. 1, A Year On Walt Whitman’s Long Island, and coming soon, The Haunting of Long Island.
