“In like a lion, out like a lamb” is certainly true when it comes to March in Mt. Vernon. There are so many roaring good time events you won’t want to miss this month!

March 3rd, 7 p.m.

Empire Wild Trio @ Cedarhurst Center for the Arts

Enjoy an “American in Paris” evening of music! Empire Wild brings songs from both American Songbook tradition and French composers to life with their original arrangements. Come listen to music from composers such as Gershwin and Cole Porter alike. Tickets are $30 for the general public and $20 for Cedarhurst members.

March 9th, 10th, 11th, 7 p.m. MVTHS Operetta “Ranked” @ Schweinfurth Auditorium Students from the Mt. Vernon Township High School theater department will perform the musical, “Ranked”. Ranked debuted in 2018, just weeks after the College Admission Scandal. “Lily is Above the Average, barely. Soon the giant, and very public, academic leaderboards will update everyone’s class rank, and for another day, everyone will know their place. March 10-11th, 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. 33rd Midwestern Herb & Garden Show @ Times Square Mall Times Square Mall will be filled with dozens of vendors featuring herbs, plants, seasonings, local honey, crafts, and more! Several classes will also take place over both days with topics including flower arrangements, bees, herbal remedies, seeds, lavender, and others. Admission is free. March 10th, 7 p.m. ClusterPluck and Arkansauce @ The Granada Theatre ClusterPluck is a four piece band from Southern Illinois mixing bluegrass, folk, rock, jam, and country together with an upbeat, electric sound! This is their third year in a row playing at The Granada Theatre. This time, they will be joined by Arkansauce, making their Granada debut. Arkansauce is a genre-hopping band that plays a combination of bluegrass, new grass, folk, Americana, country, blues, and funk. Tickets are $20 general admission, $25 reserved seating.

March 11th, 1 p.m. Family Art Fun: Van Gogh Inspired Art @ Shrode Art Center Cedarhurst Kids of all ages can participate in this make-and-take art program. Come create unique art with a variety of media. The event is free and open to the public.

March 11th, 2 p.m. “A Bicycle Trip Thorugh Ireland” at The Jefferson County Historical Village John Lynn returns to share about his adventures riding a bicycle through Ireland. Listen to entertaining tales from the Emerald Isle. The event is free, donations are accepted.

March 11th, 6 p.m. A Mardi Gras Adult Prom @ The Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge Dance the night away all while supporting an amazing cause. The 3rd annual adult prom is a fundraiser for Tiffany’s Closet, a non-profit that provides formal dresses for those in need. Have fun at the selfie booth and bid on several auction items. Must be 21 years of age or older to attend. Tickets are $60/person or $100/couple and include dinner.

March 14th, 1:30 p.m. Creative Coloring & Watercolor for Adults @ C.E. Brehm Memorial Library Create your own artwork every second Tuesday of the month at the Library! All materials including coloring sheets, colored pencils, crayons, watercolors, and paintbrushes will be provided. The event is free and open to the public, but please call 618-242-6322 to register.

March 17th, 6 p.m. United Way Annual Dinner: Superhero & Villain Ball @ The Doubletree by Hilton A fun night of dinner, dancing, and theatrics, all supporting The United Way of South Central Illinois. You will have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and participate in a silent auction. Enjoy a nice dinner, dress up, and help solve the mystery of who-dun-it. Tickets are $75/person.

March 25th, 6 p.m. Mother Son Night @ The Rolland Lewis Building A night for mothers to enjoy quality time with their son! Enjoy pizza, snacks, and drinks. Then, the real fun begins with Glo Bingo. Win prizes for both mother and son while you enjoy dancing and music between games. A night you won’t forget! Tickets are $25/couple, $10 per additional child. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Parks & Recreation office.

March 25th, 8 p.m. The Ultimate Ozzy Experience: Madman’s Diary @ The Granada Theatre The Madmen are unlike any Ozzy Tribute Band you have ever seen! Sync’d video will take Ozzy fans on a ride through his iconic career. This killer concert experience combines mind numbing theatrics, stage props, and pyrotechnics.
